Virgil van Dijk admits Premier League title is Man City’s to lose

Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea leaves Manchester City ten points clear at the top of the Premier League. Virgil van Dijk has admitted that the title is Manchester City’s to lose.

There were goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for the Reds before Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic struck just before halftime to equalize the scores.

Liverpool had several chances to take the lead late in the game, but they were unable to beat Edouard Mendy for the third time, and the game finished in a draw.

In the Premier League title race, the result did neither side any favors, with Van Dijk conceding at the end of the game that Manchester City are heavy favorites.

“It is never tough to believe [that Liverpool can catch Man City],” he told Sky Sports after the game.

“It is a big gap so they have the title maybe to lose at the moment but anything can happen still.

“Fortunately we have been there where we have had a gap, we were in front, and then we gave it away so anything is possible.

“We will focus on ourselves, Chelsea we will focus on themselves and we just have to get results, play good football and win games. It sounds pretty easy but it is tough as you have seen today.”

Alisson, Roberto Firmino, and Joel Matip all tested positive for Covid-19 in the days leading up to the game, dealing a triple blow to Liverpool. After returning a positive test earlier in the week, Jurgen Klopp was also unable to attend the match.

Even though they’re doubtful to be available for Arsenal on Thursday, they could return to the Shrewsbury squad for the FA Cup third round next Sunday.
